In this episode, I sit down with John O’Brien:
John is a Ph.D.-level trained Counseling Psychologist who has been counseling individuals and teaching students since 1996. In his work as a therapist, he specializes in the treatment of substance abuse, grief, and trauma. He is adjunct faculty member at the University of Maine at Augusta, teaching courses in psychology and addictions since 2000. In addition, he provides coaching and consulting to businesses around executive assessment, leadership development and health and wellness through Activate Success.
He is an ICF ACC Certified Coach and Certified Health and Wellness Coach through the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches. He is a former president of the Maine Psychological Association and has served on many national committees. He currently serves at the co-chair of Continuing Education for the APA Society of Consulting Psychologists.
In his many years as a teacher, He has become skilled at explaining complex psychological constructs (aka psycho-babble) into clearly understood concepts. He provides audiences with opinions and insights that are grounded in science and well-researched psychological theories.

In this episode, I sit down with Dave Smith:
Former police lieutenant Dave Smith is an internationally known speaker, writer and law enforcement expert. Dave completed his college degree at the University of Arizona while fighting forest fires with the “Coconino Hot Shots” and then began his police career with the Tucson Police Department. In 1978 he joined the Arizona Department of Public Safety, holding positions in Patrol, SWAT, Narcotics, Training and Management. In 1980 he developed the popular “Buck Savage” video training series, was the lead instructor for the Calibre Press “Street Survival” seminar from 1983 to 1985, and was instrumental in developing Calibre’s timeless “Tactical Edge” officer survival book. Dave holds numerous instructor certifications in firearms, defensive tactics, and human performance and is a proven expert witness and consultant.
In 1989, Dave joined the Law Enforcement Television Network (LETN), developing and hosting cutting-edge police, security and public safety training as its Director of Education and was the general manager of Calibre Press until January of 2002. Dave continued to instruct the “Street Survival” seminar through 2012 as its senior instructor and he managed the most comprehensive update to the seminar since 2003. Dave created the video training unit for PoliceOne.com and is still one of the primary trainers for the online Police One Academy. He produced and hosted PoliceOne’s award winning “Roll Call Reality Training” segments and was a member of their advisory board.
Dave has authored hundreds of articles for publications including Police Chief, Law and Order, The Trainer, Police Marksman, the Calibre Press Newsline, PoliceOne, Officer.com, Law Officer, NationalPolice.org and POLICE magazine. Dave currently trains internationally through the Arizona-based “The Winning Mind LLC” and is a regular columnist for POLICE magazine, the National Police Association and Law Officer.com. Dave is the author of the popular book In My Sights and is a frequent media analyst concerning law enforcement issues.

In this episode, I sit down with Betsy Smith:
Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith retired in 2009 as a 29-year veteran of a large metropolitan police department in the Chicago suburbs. Beginning her career as a police dispatcher at age 17, Betsy became an officer four years later and has held positions in patrol, investigations, narcotics, juvenile, hostage negotiation, crime prevention and field training. She received her four-year degree from Western Illinois University in 1991, and was a class officer and graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Staff and Command in May of 2001.
From 1999 – 2003 Betsy hosted various training programs and was a content expert for the Law Enforcement Television Network (LETN), is currently an on-air commentator and advisor for the Police One Academy and was a featured character in the Biography Channel’s “Female Forces” reality show.
She has been a law enforcement trainer for over 20 years and was a content expert and senior instructor for the Calibre Press “Street Survival” seminar from 2003 through 2012 where she also created the “Street Survival for Women” seminar. Betsy is a popular keynote speaker at conferences and events throughout the United States and has trained in various international venues. Since 1995, Betsy has authored hundreds of articles for law enforcement, government and civilian publications including Innovations in Government, Police Marksman, Law and Order, Police Chief, Law Officer, PoliceLink.com, PoliceOne.com, LawOfficer.com and various civilian firearms magazines through Harris Publications including “Combat Handguns.” She served on the advisory board of Police Marksman magazine, was a featured columnist and video contributor on Officer.Com, NationalPolice.org and PoliceOne.Com. Betsy is a media analyst and the spokesman for the National Police Association and is a sought-after law enforcement analyst on radio, in television and in print.
Betsy is the creator of the only course of its kind for women in law enforcement, “The Winning Mind for Women” and is the owner of The Winning Mind LLC. In this episode, I sit down with Joe Gamaldi:
FOP National Vice President Joe Gamaldi was born and raised on Long Island, NY. Following high school he attended the University of Hartford, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice, with minors in Political Science and Sociology. After graduation, Joe was hired by the NYPD in 2005 where he worked as an officer for approximately three years. He then transferred to the Houston Police Department in 2008, where he is currently an active Lieutenant.
Shortly after graduation from the academy, he completed his Master’s Degree from Long Island University in Homeland Security Management. Joe then went on to serve as a Board Member of the Houston Police Officers’ Union (HPOU) FOP Lodge 110 before being elected the Second Vice President, serving in that capacity for five years before being elected President of the Houston Police Officers’ Union, where he served for three years. Joe was elected National Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police in August of 2019 in New Orleans.
Within the National FOP Joe led the committee which developed the first National FOP mobile app, free to all members. He also assists running the social media platforms for the National FOP and with media relations/responses.

Over 21 years of law enforcement experience in assignments such as Patrol, SWAT, School Resource Officer, Training Coordinator, Academy Coordinator, Hiring, Recruiting and Background Investigations. Denise is a practicing licensed spiritually based mental health counselor and mental intuitive and has been a registered nurse for over 30 years. She works with children ages 4 and older, couples, families and adults. She is in private practice and have early morning and evening appointments available. She has treated many disorders including anxiety, depression, panic, grief, behavioral issues, trauma, marital and family issues. Denise offers a comfortable quiet environment and has the flexibility of changing her schedule to accommodate urgent needs of patients. In this episode, I sit down with Jarrod Anderson:
Jarrod is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and has over 20 years of experience in martial arts ranging from Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling and Self-Defense tactics. He began learning Martial Arts as a kid from his father. In high school, Jarrod and his friends were always in and out of trouble, fighting, and drinking which allowed him to see the negatives of living that lifestyle.
In 2009, he was sick of living that life and decided to focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and moved to Florida. Since then, he has competed at the highest levels of the sport, managed multiple gyms and became a well-respected instructor around the state of Florida. He was very active with the Paradox Training Solutions combatives courses as well as the shooting courses provided by some of the top instructors. He enjoyed this opportunity to train with these amazing officers and instructors to help law enforcement officers increase their combatives knowledge and proficiency with firearms. He strives to share his knowledge and expertise with the LE community as well as help citizens better prepare for the harsh realities of the violent world we live in.
To continue this mission, Jarrod has recently started Apex Combat Solutions LLC. Combatives training for Law Enforcement and Civilians.
